Module 17 highlights an excellent documentation of the Famen Temple Cultural Scenic Area near Xi’an, China (built 2006-2009), which covers 150 acres with a massive modern temple (Namaste Dagoba) as the focus dedicated to the most important relic in Buddhism: the Buddha finger bone. From Mexico (most photographed in Dec. 2021) this module brings you two important and monumental works in Guadalajara by Jose Clemente Orozco: 1) The People and Its Leaders and 2) Capilla Mayor Murals. Also from Guadalajara are many important recent and modern structures, including the poetic Arca Design Center by Esrawe Studio, the daring AC Hotel Marriott by Sordo Madaleno Arquitectos, and the round iconic Torre Icon 23 by Lucia Ragogna Y Paulina Corcuera, to name just a few. From the Dolores Olmedo Museum in Mexico City is the “Sunset Collection” by Diego Rivera, painted a year before the artist’s death in 1956 at the home of Dolores, in Acapulco: the series reflects Rivera’s ongoing experimentation with colors and techniques. From France we include more highlights from Bordeaux, such as the Bordeaux Cathedral, Museum of Wine (City du Vin by XTU agency), Place de la Bourse, Pont Jacques Chaban Delmas, Porte Cailhau; also included is more art from the Musee des Beaux-Arts Bordeaux (including works by Matisse, Renoir and Rodin). From the Cathedral of Lausanne, Switzerland, is full coverage of the Painted Portal sculptures by Jean Cotereel. Highlights from Prague include the Church of Our Lady before Týn, Dancing House by F. Gehry, St. Vitus Cathedral and Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul. Of the many additional works included from the Sofia and Thyssen Museums in Madrid, Spain, are Gypsy from Figueres by Salvador Dali, Head of a Smoker and House with Palm Tree by Joan Miro, and The Fire at the River Bank by Paul Gauguin. Also from Spain are important works from the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, which include the Apse of Santa Maria de Taüll, and the Mestre of the Conquest of Majorca. From India comes the spectacular white marble cenoptaph's of Gaitore Ki Chhatriyan in Jaipur. To round out this module we included some important architectural works from Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz Island, Galápagos, such as the Charles Darwin Exhibition Hall, Center for Renewable Energy, Monument to Darwin, and the lava flowing Fabian de Santos (Jewelry Store Galápagos).
