Module Fourteen’s primary focus is Islamic architecture in Andalusia, Spain; including a very detailed documentation of the largely Nasrid period Alhambra complex in Granada. (The Generalife complex and gardens will be published in 2020).
The module also includes extensive documentation of the Mezquita in Cordoba, including all of the building phases of this cathedral-mosque from Visigothic/Byzantine to Umayyad and finally Renaissance; included are the Villaviciosa, Royal and Santa Teresa Chapels. A secondary focus of the module are
important works from Portugal, such as the lovely garden of the Palace of the Marquesses of Fronteira, with its playful azulejo tiles and grottoes; selections from the National Tile Museum, and the famous Convent of Madre Deus. The Bom Jesus do Monte pilgrimage church just outside Braga is also featured,
with complete documentation of the massive Baroque stairs. And finally from Portugal is the Palace of Sintra with azulejos found throughout the palace and the remarkable 16th C. Sala dos Brasões. France is represented in this module with the deconstructivist Musée des Confluences in Lyon (2014) and the equally
impressive Bordeaux Law Courts by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners (1992-1998). Interior design and the decorative arts are featured in coverage of the Villa della Regina in Turin, Italy, including the King’s and Queen’s apartments with delightful rooms in the 'Chinese style' designed by Filippo Juvarra and
executed by Pietro Massa; and also the Henry Morrison Flagler Museum in Palm Beach, FL, showcasing all of the "themed" bedrooms there. Additional works from Italy include several Palladian villas and the Piazza della Vittoria in Brescia. Built between 1927 and 1932 by Marcello Piacentini, the piazza stands
as one of the greatest achievements of Rational-Fascist urban planning in Italy. Rounding out this module are highlights from the Los Angeles area such as the Wayfarers Chapel and grounds by Lloyd Wright (Frank Lloyd Wright Jr.), and the Broad Museum ('The Broad') in downtown LA by Diller Scofidio + Renfro (2015).
